I'm an ETV Employee!

Can I get a round of applause anyone? I was selected as an SC ETV Intern this summer! However, I wasn’t chosen as a candidate for “Your Day” in Clemson. I was chosen for “Making it Grow!” which is based out of Sumter, South Carolina and it is conveniently only a thirty minute commute from my hometown of Camden! I found out over Spring Break that I was chosen for the position! I talked to Vic Miller, who is the manager at ETV in Sumter. He is very excited to take me on as a summer intern and I will begin work in late May! My schedule will be 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. most Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. On Tuesdays I won’t go in until 1 p.m., but I will generally work until 9 p.m. The show “Making it Grow” is taped live every Tuesday night and I will get the experience to see them film live! This is an experience that I am so very excited about and I can’t wait to share more with you once I begin! When I talked to Vic he told me that on some Wednesday’s we will be doing field work. We will drive all over South Carolina to obtain footage for upcoming shows!
He said I will get a full range of production experience including assisting in the studio and field productions to including helping with set up, note taking, etc. I am going to get the opportunity to operate cameras and even partake in the taping of live shows! He said I may also have the opportunity to spend some time in the control room operating graphics or answer the phones during live shows.
And here is good news! I am being paid for all of the fun I am going to have! I can’t wait! On another happy note! The weather is beautiful today in Clemson! Sunny and 65! Wish you were here!

The Interview.

This morning at 9 AM I had my interview with ETV Endowment's "Your Day!" I woke up at 8 AM just to make sure that my voice didn't sound groggy when I was on the phone! Silly, I know, but you have to do everything to prepare your voice! That is all they could hear! Little did they know I was sitting in my pajama's with a cup of coffee! (I could get used to phone interviews!) The conversation lasted about 20 minutes and he asked me a bunch of different questions. Here were some of them:

1. What do you think you will gain from an internship with ETV Endowment's "Your Day?"

2. What type of relationship do you feel a supervisor and a subordinate should have?

3. What kind of conflicts have you recently faced that you believe taught you something?

4. How do you feel past experiences will help you succeed in this internship?

He asked me four more questions that I am blanking on right now, but I was super excited throughout the whole interview and I hope it paid off! I should find out if I have a position in early April and I will let you know!

For now, I'm just trying to stay dry on this rainy day in March! It was such a beautiful spring day yesterday and now it is chilly and wet! I'm going to a Clemson soccer game against Wofford tonight (if it doesn't get rained out!) I will let you know how that turns out tomorrow!

See ya!

Good news everyone!

I am so excited to announce that I am officially a Communication Studies major! I found out on Friday afternoon via email that I was accepted to the major! I was filled with so much relief and excitement that I started crying! I was on the phone with my friend Elly when I got the news and we were both screaming at each other out of excitement! It was pretty funny! One of my sorority sisters heard me screaming the great news and she gave me a huge hug!

I immediately went to Strode to complete my change of major card so that I could truly make it official! Filling out the paper work I wrote Communication Studies major on the line that asked for my major. It was a strangely special moment. I called my sister and my Dad to let them know about the good news! They were so proud of me and I was really proud of me. I thought this was a great way to start my weekend, but the news got even better that afternoon after I left the Trustees Office…

I applied for an internship with ETV’s “Your Day.” This summer Clemson is offering a ten week internship with “Your Day” which is the radio show on ETV. I was super excited about the opportunity to stay in Clemson this summer and get some radio experience! However, I wasn’t holding my breath, because they had over 65 applicants and they are only taking 7 interns! I received a call from ETV Friday afternoon and they informed me that I had made it through the first round of the selection process! The second part of the process is a phone interview! I set up an appointment with ETV and I have already begun preparing for the interview! I will keep you updated on the internship, but win or lose; I am still a Communication Studies major which is such a great accomplishment!
